The Women Education & Empowerment Trust (TWEET) marked its fifth anniversary by celebrating a journey of impactful women empowerment initiatives. In connection with the milestone, TWEET organized a review meeting at its headquarters in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, with active participation from its collaborating NGOs. During the gathering, TWEET’s office bearers detailed the organization’s achievements over the past five years.
Five-Year Milestone
Since its inception in 2019, TWEET has empowered 8,257 women and has now set an ambitious goal to empower 50,000 more women within the next three years. To further this mission, TWEET plans to host a National Women NGOs Conclave in April 2025. This event aims to foster capacity building, enhance collaboration, and ensure effective resource utilization among women-focused NGOs.
Rahamathunnissa A., Chairperson of TWEET, reiterated the organization’s vision of promoting social and economic empowerment for women, enabling them to lead dignified lives with equal societal participation. She emphasized TWEET’s mission to address the root causes of women’s challenges and provide comprehensive support through multifaceted initiatives.
A five-year progress report was presented at the meeting, highlighting key programs and areas of impact under TWEET’s initiatives.
Key Initiatives and Achievements
Educational Empowerment
TWEET recognizes education as the cornerstone of empowerment. The organization offers merit-based scholarships to girls pursuing higher education at prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally. Notably, the one-year campaign “Freedom from Illiteracy” (August 2022 – July 2023) mobilized educated women to teach non-literate women across the country, significantly extending literacy to underserved communities.
Economic Empowerment
To promote financial independence, TWEET has supported various small business ventures, including boutiques, tiffin services, cosmetic shops, and home-based businesses like detergent production units. These initiatives have enabled numerous women to achieve self-sufficiency by establishing sustainable enterprises. Additionally, TWEET’s training sessions equip women with entrepreneurial skills to launch their own start-ups, creating supplementary income streams for their families.
Emotional and Financial Support for Widows
Understanding the unique challenges faced by widows, TWEET provides counselling and financial assistance to ensure they can lead dignified and self-reliant lives.
Mahila Help Desk
This initiative empowers women by increasing awareness of various government welfare schemes and guiding them to access these benefits. By leveraging government support, women are able to achieve financial stability and move towards a self-sufficient and dignified life.
Life Skills and Safety Programmes
In collaboration with the Special Police Unit for Women and Children, Delhi Police, TWEET has conducted self-defence training programmes for girls and women. These initiatives also include sensitization programmes to raise awareness about women’s rights and social issues, such as domestic violence, empowering participants to advocate for themselves and their communities.
Internship Opportunities and Hostel Facilities
TWEET offers internship opportunities to female students from diverse disciplines, providing them with practical experience and skill development. Furthermore, the organization has established a hostel to support both students and working women.
Looking Ahead As TWEET celebrates its five-year journey, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering social and economic empowerment for women. With its vision firmly rooted in creating a more equitable society, TWEET continues to pave the way for women to lead dignified and impactful lives.
T. Arifali, Chairman of Vision, presided over the gathering. M. Sajid, Director, Vision, office bearers and trustees of TWEET and officials from collaborating NGOs, participated in the event.
